Jahnavi Dangeti becomes 1st Indian to complete NASA’s Space Program | Current Affairs 2022

An Andhra Pradesh young girl, Jahnavi Dangeti who is just 19 years old became the first Indian astronaut and complete NASA’s International Air and Space Program(IASP) at the Kennedy Space Centre in Alabama, US.

Jahnavi Dangeti, a second-year engineering student, who is from Palakollu of West Godavari, is making new records for India. She became the first Indian aspiring astronaut.

Jahnavi Dangeti, a second-year B-tech student from Palakollu of West Godavari, has been fascinated by the mysteries of space and the distant planets since her childhood. But her grandmother sparked her interest further in the future from her bedtime stories. She is becoming an aspiring astronaut to all the youngsters who are interested in this field and she created a new history in the world by being the only Indian to undergo International Air and Space Program (IASP) at Nasa Launch Operations’ Kennedy Space Centre in Alabama, US.

Jahnavi Dangeti said, “I dream of being one of the first Indians to set foot on Mars”.

IASP selected the only most useful of 20 young students for this program from all over the world. Jahnavi Dangeti recently completed her entire training in the astronaut program at Kennedy Space Centre. In this, the activities included according to her, zero gravity, multi-access training, and underwater rocket launch. She also piloted an aircraft for the first time. During her training session or program, she was appointed as the mission director for the ‘Team Kennedy’ and she leads a group of around 16 people from different countries and she & her team became successful in her mission of launching and landing a miniature rocket into the sky successfully.

Jahnavi Dangeti said, “I am taking every opportunity to reach my dream by participating in various projects, workshops, and hackathons. I have worked diligently analyzing images caught by the Pan-STARRS satellite in pursuit of unexposed asteroids. Our team made 16 preliminary discoveries and spotted one provisional discovery”. Jahnavi now completed her engineering at a private university in Punjab, She participated in many events and workshops of NASA, ISRO, and other space agencies as she is interested in this.

Jahnavi also said, “I even got a scholarship from a Mexican company for the IASP program. As a step towards my astronaut journey, I have trained in open water scuba diving in various places, including in Visakhapatnam. Now, I am a Scuba Schools International-certified open water scuba diver”.
